MPFL Reconstruction

Patrick A. Smith, MD (Naples, FL), discusses medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction as well as his demonstration of the surgical technique. The MPFL is the main passive restraint against patellofemoral instability and lateral patellar displacement. Since the rupture of the MPFL causes patellar dislocation, an anatomic reconstruction of the MPFL is used to restore patellofemoral stability. Specifically, an Arthrex Anatomic Double-Bundle MPFL reconstruction replicates the native shape of the MPFL for patellofemoral stability. Dr. Smith concludes with sharing his keys to success of the MPFL reconstruction technique.
